I provide proofreading, copy editing, and developmental editing services to help you elevate your writing while preserving your unique voice. Whether you’re seeking big-picture story feedback, stylistic refinement, or a final quality check before publication, I can help you present your best work.
Below is an overview of my editing process, from first contact to project completion.
To begin, you’ll complete a brief questionnaire about your project—covering details such as genre, word count, timeline, and the type of editing support you’re looking for.
Please also send a 10-page sample of your manuscript to staufferediting@gmail.com
Within 1–3 business days (often sooner), I’ll respond with an initial assessment of whether we’re a good fit to work together. I may ask a few clarifying questions, and if everything aligns, I’ll request the full manuscript to prepare a detailed quote and project timeline.
If you’d like, we can schedule a complimentary 15-minute video call to discuss your goals and expectations—or, if you prefer, we can communicate entirely by email.
Once we agree to move forward, I’ll send a project agreement and an invoice for a 25% deposit (payable via PayPal, Zelle, or Stripe). This deposit secures your project in my schedule.
Editing is completed in either Google Docs (using Suggesting Mode) or Microsoft Word (using Track Changes), allowing you to easily review, accept, or reject edits.
For developmental feedback or any suggestions requiring additional explanation, I provide detailed in-text comments throughout your manuscript.
In Google Docs, you can reply directly and tag me with questions. In Microsoft Word, you’re welcome to email me or schedule a brief check-in call.
Each project includes up to three complimentary 15-minute calls. Additional consultation time is billed at $1 per minute.
When editing is complete, I’ll deliver your finalized files and send an invoice for the remaining 75% balance.
You’ll also receive a summary note outlining key areas to review and suggested next steps for revision or publication.
If you’d like to move forward with an additional round of editing, I’ll provide a new quote based on your updated manuscript and goals.
Partnering with an editor is an important step in the writing process, and I aim to make that process straightforward and collaborative. If you’re interested in working together or would like to discuss your project in more detail, please reach out—I’d be happy to answer your questions and help you determine the best next step.
